Export of bitter gourds to Qatar begins, supply inadequate to meet demand

DHARAN, July 6: Black Diamond Organic Pvt. Ltd. has started exporting organic bitter gourds produced by farmers in Belka Municipality of Udayapur district-the municipality that adjoins the eastern part of Sunsari to Qatar.

DHARAN, July 6: Black Diamond Organic Pvt. Ltd. has started exporting organic bitter gourds produced by farmers in Belka Municipality of Udayapur district-the municipality that adjoins the eastern part of Sunsari to Qatar.



It exported 50 cartons of bitter gourds to Qatar last year. It is going to export  90 additional cartons in the immediate future.


Black Diamond Organic Pvt. Ltd. has been exporting organic vegetables to Qatar for one year. It has signed an agreement with Qatar government to export organic vegetables to Qatar.

According to Narayan Karki, the director of Black Diamond Organic Pvt Ltd, it exports 3 tons of organic vegetables to Qatar daily.


“It has been one year since the company started exporting organic vegetables to Qatar. Demand for vegetables in Qatar is very high. Our supply is not adequate enough to meet it,” said Karki.


The company not only buys organic vegetables from local farmers to export but also engages in vegetable farming itself to increase the quantity of vegetables it exports to Qatar. It has been using 6 bigha of land for organic vegetable farming.


A tripartite agreement that requires this company to purchase organic vegetables produced by locals at a fixed price has been signed among Bekla Municipality, Farmer groups and it.


“We have made a tripartite agreement that will be effective for one year. In the agreement, we have fixed the price of vegetables at which we must buy them,” said Thapa.


“The Black Diamond Organic Pvt. Ltd. provides farmers with agricultural technology. We also give them training on farming. In addition, We also provide them with loan”, added Karki.
