Former Brigadier General Basnyat, Ex-Nepal Police AIG arrested, released

KATHMANDU, May 10: Former Brigadier General of Nepal Army, Prem Singh Basnyat and former Additional Inspector General of Police, Thakur Mohan Shrestha, who were arrested Saturday afternoon for violating lockdown orders, were released in the evening on the same day.

KATHMANDU, May 10: Former Brigadier General of Nepal Army, Prem Singh Basnyat and former Additional Inspector General of Police, Thakur Mohan Shrestha, who were arrested Saturday afternoon for violating lockdown orders, were released in the evening on the same day.



They were arrested from a protest organized in Maharajgunj in the capital against the unilateral road construction by India through the Lipulekh Pass, a Nepali territory in the country's north-western frontier with China. However, Metropolitan Police said that they were briefly detained for violating the lockdown orders and released a couple of hours later. They were kept at Maharajgunj Police Circle for two hours.

Earlier today, police apprehended at least three dozen youths from various parts of Kathmandu who were protesting against the encroachment of Nepali territory by India.
