Former justice Lamsal no more

KATHMANDU, Oct 29: Former Supreme Court (SC) justice Bhairav ​​Prasad Lamsal passed away on Thursday at the age of 81. The SC has said in a statement that Lamsal's demise has caused irreparable damage to the country’s judicial sector.

KATHMANDU, Oct 29: Former Supreme Court (SC) justice Bhairav ​​Prasad Lamsal passed away on Thursday at the age of 81. The SC has said in a statement that Lamsal's demise has caused irreparable damage to the country’s judicial sector.



Born in 1940, Lamsal entered the judiciary in 1961. He became a section officer and became an additional judge of the regional court in 1987. In 1991, he became the chief judge of the appellate court in Nepalgunj. He was appointed as a permanent judge of the Supreme Court in 1999.

He retired in 2005. Lamsal became the Chairman of the Judicial Probe Commission on Property. He recommended that the assets of about 600 people, including judges and other public officials, be investigated and that action be taken.


The report, popularly known as the ‘Lamsal Report’ was not made public. This has been kept a secret till date.
