Four arrested for timber smuggling

SOLUKHUMBU, Jan 7: Authorities here today morning arrested four people on the charge of smuggling timber. 



The staffers at the District Forest Office (DFO), Solukhumbu held Phurba Sherpa of Dhudhkunda Municipality-5 in Solukhumbu district along with three others for trying to smuggle timber. 



The Forest Office's staffers, who were on a patrol, spotted three persons smuggling timbers to nearby Solu River in the wee hours. 



Acting on the information provided by the arrested ones, they went to find out a stash of 206 timbers at Phurba Sherpa's house, according to the District Forest Officer Meghraj Rai. 



The four arrested have been handed over to the community police for further action. 



It is revealed that Sherpa had been involved in timber smuggling for a long time while the rest three were hired on basis of wage payment, according to the DFO Solukhumbu. RSS
