KHOTANG, Jan 7: A revolving fund has been set up for the upbringing and education of a child orphaned after his mother died in course of treatment of blood cancer.
Kabita Tamang, 18, of Kharmi, Khotang died while receiving treatment for blood cancer on August 14 leaving her son Tenjin to fend for himself. A revolving fund has been set up with Rs 547,747.
Jayanti Rai of Baspani in Khotang and currently living in the UK sent Rs 503,847 while Ranjana Rai living in Kathmandu fundraised Rs 43,860 to establish the fund, Jayanti's brother Rajan Rai said.
The fund has been set up at Janata Bank in Baneshwor, Kathmandu. The interest drawn from the savings account will be used for Tenjin's upbringing and education.
The National News Agency (RSS) had covered a news story on the financial problems in the way of treatment of Kabita's blood cancer following which Jayanti and Ranjana launched the 'Save Kabita' campaign.
The day the money fundraised by the campaign was being sent for Kabita's treatment, she passed away. During her last minutes, Kabita had appealed for support to save her infant son.
Kabita was married off to Ashok Tamang of Kharmi – 8 two years ago. Kabita started showing symptoms of blood cancer from Grade 10 which prompted Ashok to leave in search of migrant work to Saudi Arabia. He returned after his wife's health condition deteriorated further. RSS
