KATHMANDU, April 1: Ghodejatra festival, which is celebrated every year on the day of Chaitra Krishna Aunsi, is being celebrated today. According to popular belief, a monster called Gurumapa, who used to live in a tree on the east-south side of Tundikhel, used to eat the children of the city.

The locals killed him by various means. The locals feared that the demon's spirits would be awoken again and harm the children. For this reason, every year on the day of Chaitra Krishna Aunsi, the soul of Gurumapa is trampled underfoot by a horse. Also, food is offered at the foot of the same tree tonight so that no child in the city is endangered.
