Gita, Akriti's pair table tennis champs<br/>Greenland basketball

KATHMANDU, Aug 17: Geeta Shrestha and Akriti Acharya´s pair of the host Little Angels´ lifted the trophy of the Third LAS\JTI Inter-school Open Junior Table Tennis Championship under girls´ U-14 doubles category. The duo recorded a comfortable win over British School´s Sangde Ongdi and Ashma Lama 6-0, 6-3 in the final match held at the Little Angels´ court in Hattiban. [break]



Likewise, Achal Thapa and Anand Gauchan´s pair of Rato Bangala and Diwas Shrestha and Binod Gautam´s pair of the hosts entered the final of boys´ U-14 doubles category.



Similarly, Anushka Joshi of The British School and Mina Gharti of Brihaspati set up the title clash in U-14 girls´ singles. Anushka beat Anushka Malla of St Xavier´s and Mina ousted Sange Ongdi in the semifinal matches.



In the men´s category, Achal Thapa of Rato Bangala edged past Diwas Shrestha of the hosts 6-1, 6-1 and Suyas Rajbhandari of The British School outplayed Surbir Shrestha of LA 6-2, 6-2.



In women´s U-16, Anushka of The British School edged past Pavitra Gurung of Golden Gate 6-3, 6-1 and Mina of Brihaspati struggled against Kencho Ongdi of The British School 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to set up the final clash.



Greenland basketball



KATHMANDU, Aug 17: Awareness International Academy advanced into the quarterfinals of the Fourth Greenland Inter-school Basketball Competition in junior boys´ category on Monday after earning a bye from New Zenith School.



Likewise, Valley Public defeated Anger Heart 15-11 and Bishnumati School 15-6 in Monday´s matches while Prithvi School sidelined Gaurishankar School 12-4 and Deepjyoti thrashed host Greenland to advance into the last eight.



In senior boys´ section, Kathmandu Valley, Tungram International Academy (TIA) and Grand Academy registered wins. Valley beat British Gorkha 41-17, TIA outplayed Deepjyoti 47-22 and Grand edged past AIA 20-19.



Monsoon meet basketball



KATHMANDU, Aug 17: Shree Diwa, Shuvatara, Rato Bangala and Galaxy School won their respective matches in the senior girls´ category of the Fifth Monsoon Meet Basketball Competition on Monday.



Shree Diwa outplayed Pennwood Academy 25-23, Shuvatara beat Excelsior School 19-7, Rato Bangala hammered Gyan Niketan 26-3 and Galaxy overcame Ullens School 25-11.



In junior boys´ category, Gyan Niketan, Arunodaya, Brihaspati and Young Heart School registered victories.
