Govt allocates Rs 180 million for providing scholarships to children of civil servants

KATHMANDU, July 4: The government is going to spend around Rs 180 million to distribute scholarships to the children of civil servants for their higher studies.



According to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, 687 children of civil servants will get educational motivation incentives this year. The ministry said on Monday that scholarships are provided to students studying in the first year or first or second semester of Bachelors level.

According to the ministry, it has been decided that  Rs 178.1 million will be paid to the bank accounts of the concerned civil servants for those students who have completed the prescribed procedures and qualifications. According to the ministry, 144 students from the Faculty of Medicine, 29 from Health Sciences, one from Ayurveda, 229 from Engineering, five  from Forestry, 36 from Agriculture Science, 12 from Science, 45 from Law, and 119 from Management. Similarly, 4 students from Education, 11 from Humanities and 52 students from Information Technology Faculty have been chosen for the scholarships. The ministry has prepared a procedure to distribute scholarships to the children of civil servants. In the procedure, if the government deems it necessary, there is a provision that students who have been provided with a scholarship can be employed anywhere within one year.


According to the Ministry of Federal Affairs, so far 2,877 children of civil servants have received scholarships for higher studies in various subjects. From the financial year 2066/67 BS, scholarships were provided with the aim of encouraging the children of civil servants for higher studies. So far, the government has spent Rs 600.4 million for this program. This program was conducted till the fiscal year 2073/74 BS. This program has been relaunched since last year.
