Govt appoints three more members of National Planning Commission

KATHMANDU, April 22: The government has appointed three more members to the National Planning Commission (NPC). 



The government is preparing to bring the budget for the financial year 2023/42. Ramesh Chandra Poudel, Prof. Dr. RP Bichha and Prabhu Budhathoki have been appointed as commission members.

The newly-appointed Dr. Ramesh Chandra Poudel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Tribhuvan University. He graduated from the Australian National University in Economics. RP Bichha has been active in the health sector for a long time.


Poudel and Bichha have taken oath of office and secrecy on Friday.Budhathoki could not take oath of office and secrecy as he was outside Kathmandu.


The government has already appointed economist Dr Min Bahadur Shrestha as Vice President of the NPC. Earlier, Kumar Phuyal and Dr Jayakant Raut were appointed as members of NPC. The NPC has been given full shape after the appointment of three members.


The NPC is the highest body under the National Development Council that advises on the country's development plans and policy formulation.


The Prime Minister presides over the National Planning Commission, while the Commission has a full-time vice-chairman, six members representing various subject areas and a special category official (Secretary) of the Nepal Civil Service as member secretary. It is arranged that the Chief Secretary and Finance Secretary of the Government of Nepal will be ex-officio members of the Commission.
