“Govt committed to enforce International conventions,” reaffirms Minister Thapa

KATHMANDU, Sept 20: Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizen, Tham Maya Thapa has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implement all the international conventions on women rights where Nepal is also a signatory. 



At an interaction programme organized by Forum for Women, Law and Development on Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) here today, Minister Thapa asserted that women rights were incorporated in the constitution of Nepal and laws that would enforce those rights were being formulated.

Thapa stressed on the local units and provincial governments for the effective implementation of the constitution-enshrined women rights through effective laws. 

Likewise, human rights activists Chandani Joshi argued that the superstitious cultural practices should be curbed by the laws and victims of violence should be ensured justice at the earliest. 


Similarly, human rights activists Bandana Rana underscored the stringent enforcement of the Acts, rules and laws put in place to minimize all forms of discriminations against women. 

Also, Rana viewed that the women should be empowered socially and economically which, she believed, would contribute towards the elimination of the discriminations against women. 


On the occasion, FWLD Executive Director Sabin Shrestha spoke of the need to end discriminations of all sorts against women. He shared about a report containing the suggestions on safeguarding women rights that were solicited from all seven provinces.
