Govt committed to rights of working journalists: Minister Baskota

POKHARA, July 28: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Prasad Baskota, has said the government was working to formulate laws required for the development of journalism.

POKHARA, July 28: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Prasad Baskota, has said the government was working to formulate laws required for the development of journalism. 



During the inspection of the building of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Kaski today, Minister Baskota said preparations were underway to formulate act and law required to further develop and promote journalism and for professional security of journalists.

On the occasion, he held interactions with journalists."The government is committed to the rights of working journalists," the Minister underscored. Arrangements have been in place to pay journalists through a banking system from this month. As he stated, a new act on the proportional advertisement is in the offing and the government preparing to streamline the online journalism, adding the social network and online are same. 

According to him, the government has established the journalism career development fund and presently, Rs 10 million has been allocated to the fund. 


The government is much concerned about physical safety of journalists and no assault on journalists could be tolerated, he asserted. 


FNJ, Kaski Chair Dipendra Shrestha presided over the program.
