Govt decides to administer third dose of vaccine to frontline workers and senior citizen later this month

KATHMANDU, Jan 8: The Ministry of Health and Population has decided to provide a third dose (additional dose) of COVID-19 vaccine to frontline workers and senior citizens above 60 years of age beginning the third week of January.

KATHMANDU, Jan 8: The Ministry of Health and Population has decided to provide a third dose (additional dose) of COVID-19 vaccine to frontline workers and senior citizens above 60 years of age beginning the third week of January.



Secretary at the Ministry of Health Dr. Roshan Pokharel said that a third dose will be administered from the third week of January to the front line doctors, health workers, and security personnel and the vaccines will be provided to senior citizens and all those who have low immunity from the last week of January.

According to Dr Pokharel, the government has decided to administer a third dose of COVID-19 vaccines in view of the possibility of a third wave of coronavirus. Out of the total number of cases tested in Nepal, COVID-19 infection is found in 8.49 percent. Of the 14,971 people tested on Friday, 968 were found infected with the virus.


The third dose will be provided to the one who has already received both doses of vaccine. Health Secretary Dr Pokharel also said that the scope of antigen tests has been increased in all border points to prevent a possible spread of the COVID-19.
