KATHMANDU, June 27:  Narayan Prakash Saud (NP Saud), a leader of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC), has objected to the recall of 11 ambassadors by the government. During the special hour of the House of Representative (HoR) meeting on Thursday, he also objected to the response of Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal, stating that the recall of ambassadors was due to political appointments. Saud, who is also a former foreign minister, mentioned that such issues have diminished Nepal’s standing on the diplomatic and international stage.

Saud said, “Nepal has recalled 11 ambassadors from 11 countries, while we have been trying to make Nepal diplomatic and prosperous. Ambassadors going from administration, staff and various fields were recalled without providing any reason which has led to diminished reliability in the diplomatic and international arenas.”

Giving remarks targeted at the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), he noted that the appointment of an ambassador is not like that in an NGO by the political parties. “A party is seeking aspirants for ambassadorial posts by publishing notices and advertisements, akin to an NGO. This has hampered our global image,” he said.

He also mentioned the visit by China's Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs to Nepal and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) agreement. He also objected that there was no discussion with the opposition party regarding the BRI agreement.
