Govt exempts customs duty, VAT and excise duty on import of medical equipment including oxygen cylinder

KATHMANDU, April 29: The government has decided to exempt various taxes on the import of various medical equipment including the life-saving oxygen cylinder.



A Cabinet meeting held on April 26 decided to provide exemptions on customs duty, value added tax (VAT) and excise duty, which used to be levied on the import of different medical stuffs, in view of the rising COVID-19 cases in the country.

The goods, categorized in 10 different customs subtitles, will now not be levied any taxes, according to a public statement issued by the health ministry on Thursday.


The list includes various medical gears including medical grade oxygen, oxygen cylinder, ICU beds, blood gas analyzers, oxygen concentrators, helmets for non invasive ventilators, vacuum pressure swing absorption (VPSA).
