KATHMANDU, April 9: Minister for Health and Population Hridayesh Tripathi has said that the government is mulling to suspend physical classes in academic institutions in view of the rising cases of COVID-19 in the country.
In an interview with a television on Thursday evening, Minister Tripathi said that a soon-to-be held meeting of the COVID-19 Crisis Management Center will take a decision to suspend physical classes. He said that the CCMC meeting will ask academic institutions to run virtual classes to make sure that the teaching and learning activities in academic institutions are not affected.

In the interview with the Prime Television, Minister Tripathi said that there is no alternative to run virtual classes as the country is already witnessing the second wave of COVID-19. He argued that it is extremely important to strictly follow the public health protocols in order to stop the situation of COVID-19 crisis getting further worse.
Health Minister Tripathi said the UK variant of COVID-19 was lately traced in Nepal and academic institutions were found highly affected by the new variant. He also urged top political leaders of all political parties in the country to stop organizing mass rallies and demonstration as precautionery measures to contain further spread of COVID-19.
Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister K P Oli had also asked all to strictly observe the COVID-19 health protocols to avoid the government to take any extreme measures such as lockdown to control the spread of COVID-19. Arguing that the lockdown is not the choice of the government, Prime Minister Oli said the government will be forced enforce lockdown if things get further worse.
