KATHMANDU, May 1: The government has issued a provision barring its officials from taking up foreign trips under the sponsorship of the firms that have secured government contracts.
This provision has been laid down in the Foreign Visit Management Directive issued recently that prohibits government officials from taking up foreign visits sponsored by business companies that have secured contacts.

“No government officials will be allowed to take up any foreign trips under the sponsorship of firms or contractors that have secured government contracts,” reads the section 13 of the Foreign Visit Management Directive.
Similarly, Section 13 (2) of the Directive says, “The government official will be sent abroad at the government’s cost if special skills, trainings and knowledge are deemed necessary to carry out such projects.”
The government has issued this directive in a bid to make foreign trips transparent, result-orientated and effective.
A 10-page-long directive includes various provisions related to the process of recommendation, nomination, approval, and recommendation committee among others.
