KATHMANDU, May 22: Ruling Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the government’s policies and programs for the coming fiscal year will focus on the promotion of domestic products.
Speaking at the launch of a book written by Swarnim Wagle, former vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC) and economist, in Kathmandu on Sunday, Thapa said that the government's policies and programs for the coming fiscal year will focus on the promotion of domestically-produced goods.

He said that as per their suggestion given to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, a separate project would be launched under the Nepali Product Promotion Program under the Ministry of Industry. Under this, work will be done in the fields of agriculture, food, forest products, herbs, medicine, construction and handicrafts, he said.
Similarly, former NPC vice-chairman Wagle said that political stability would not be possible for a few days only to retain the seats of the leaders. He said that assurance of adequate policies is necessary for the development of the country. He said that the existing system and technology of the country needs to be improved.
Likewise, former member of the National Planning Commission Usha Jha mentioned the need to form a long-term development plan. She stressed formulating a 25-year plan for development instead of just five years. Although there is no lack of policy to work in Nepal, the administrative process is slow, Jha said.
She said that if a 25-year plan could be made, it would be easier to continue the work according to the master plan, even after the government changes in five years.
