KATHMANDU, July 10: The Development Committee of Legislature-Parliament has directed the government to bring Disaster Resilience Development Policy soon.
A meeting of the House held today issued such directive in the name of the government after holding discussions on embankment, flooding, inundation, landslides in different parts of the country including Tilathi of Saptari district.

The Committee has further directed the government to make arrangement for the long term plan in a planned manner to reduce the repeating disasters.
The committee has also issued directives to make arrangements for carrying out a clear assessment of the damage to physical infrastructure caused by the recent flood, landslide and inundation and prompt repair of these infrastructures and for having provisions for providing the prior warning to the citizens by establishing disaster and climate risk reduction training centres at the local level.
Likewise, the committee directed the bodies concerned to carry out a study to assess the level of risk the scattered settlements are to natural hazards like floods, landslide and inundation and to upgrade the Central Natural Disaster Rescue and Relief Committee into a high-level powerful body for disaster management.
The meeting also issued directives regarding formulation of an integrated master plan establishing coordination with all the bodies related to the long-term resolution of the problem to prevent the loss of life and property adopting flood and landslide control measures, according to committee president Rabindra Adhikari.
The committee, likewise, instructed the ministries concerned to carry out whatever works they can do from their side for taking diplomatic initiatives as per the international principles and norms, and laws as the physical structures that India has built on the border inside the Nepali territory have led to flooding and inundation in most of the settlements in the Tarai.
