SIMKOT, July 12: COVID-19 cases have increased in Humla district days after the prohibitory order was lifted.
There has been dense mobility of people in the market and elsewhere after the prohibitory measures enforced earlier to contain possible spread of COVID-19 pandemic was removed. What has made things worse is that people tend to largely ignore health protocols such as wearing facemasks and sanitizers while going out of their house.
COVID-19 cases skyrocket in the Kathmandu Valley
The cases of COVID-19 infection in the district have risen due to carelessness on the part of ordinary people, said officiating superintendent of District Hospital Humla, Dr Tashi Yanjuk Lama. "The infection rate is cent percent in the past few days. We may soon reach the point where we may be unable to provide treatment if the current rate of infection continues," he said.
On Sunday alone, five people were tested positive for the deadly virus from among 14 antigen tests conducted at the laboratory of the district hospital. The district hospital cannot endure increasing COVID-19 patients without adequate resources needed to treat them, said Dr Lama.
At present, four COVID-19 patients are receiving treatment at the hospital. So far, four people have died from the deadly infection in the district. Likewise, 290 infection cases out of 1,980 antigen tests have been reported so far in the district. Out of which, 43 cases are active while others have gotten over the virus.
