KATHMANDU, OCT 1: Nepal imported sanitizers worth Rs 56.50 million in the first two months of the current fiscal year.

According to the records of the Department of Customs (DoC), import of sanitizers stood at Rs 264.82 million during mid-July and mid-September alone. The heavy fall in the import of the hand antiseptic was due to large production of the chemical by the domestic manufacturers and decline in the number of COVID-19 infections in recent months.

The imports of sanitizer used to be almost zero before the spread of coronavirus. However, demand for the product soared heavily following the risks of the pandemic in March 2020.

As per the government record, Nepal imported sanitizer worth over Rs 700 million last fiscal year. The largest amount of sanitizer was imported from India (worth over Rs 400 million), while China and Vietnam were in second and third position, respectively, in terms of the quantity of sanitizers imported to Nepal.
