In the first case, COVID-19 claims life of a journalist in Nepal

KAPILVASTU, Sept 8: In the first such case in Nepal, a journalist died of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Tuesday.

KAPILVASTU, Sept 8: In the first such case in Nepal, a journalist died of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Tuesday.



The 62-year old Banarasi Barma died of COVID-19 while undergoing dialysis at Universal Medical College in Bhairahawa. Journalist Barma tested positive for the COVID-19 after his death, according to Kumar Thapa, who is COVID-19 Focal Person at the District Health Office in Kapilvastu.

Journalist Barma had been undergoing treatment for dialysis for the past 4 months. “After experiencing breathing difficulties, he was admitted to the hospital earlier on Tuesday,” he added.


Barma was also a founding member of Federation of Nepali Journalists, Kapilvastu Chapter. He was also later elected as the Vice Chairman of the FNJ, Kapilvastu chapter.
