Increase number of local municipal bodies: NC district presidents to LBRC

KATHMANDU, Aug 22: A two-day gathering of the district presidents of the Nepali Congress has come up with a suggestion that the Local Bodies Restructuring Commission (LBRC) rectify its proposal to form 565 local municipal bodies, saying that the proposal is ‘unscientific and unfeasible.’

KATHMANDU, Aug 22: A two-day gathering of the district presidents of the Nepali Congress held in the capital has come up with a suggestion that the Local Bodies Restructuring Commission (LBRC) rectify its proposal to form 565 local municipal bodies, saying that the proposal is ‘unscientific and unfeasible.’



Most of the district presidents in the gathering held for two days (Sunday and Monday) maintained that the proposal of the LBRC to form 565 municipal bodies is ‘unscientific and unfeasible’ and suggested that it be rectified.

They suggested that the local municipal bodies should be delineated on the basis of population and geography, NC Kaski District President Krishna KC told Republica Online.


Most of the district presidents were of the opinion that the current Ilakas (created for the DDC election) of the District Development Committees should be converted into municipal bodies.   


There are currently 927 Ilakas in the District Development Committee.


After hearing the suggestion of the district presidents, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba said that he would come up with the party’s official decision after holding party’s Parliamentary and Central Committee meetings.
