India dispatches first consignment of COVID-19 vaccine to Nepal

KATHMANDU, Jan 21: The first batch of COVID-19 vaccine left New Delhi for Nepal on Thursday morning. 



An aircraft of Air India carrying COVID-19 vaccines is landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport shortly, according to the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.

Anurag Srivastava, official spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs tweeted that the first consignment of India-made COVID-19 vaccines has taken off for Nepal.

On Wednesday, the Government of India announced providing 1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Nepal under grant assistance. Nepal is planning to inoculate frontline health workers, employees and security personnel in the first phase.


The Government of Nepal had given a conditional approval to use Serum India Institute's AstraZeneca Covishield against the COVID-19 on Friday last week.
