KATHMANDU, Oct 23: With the financial support of the Government of India, the 35-km long Jayanagar-Kurta border narrow gauge railway has been converted into broad gauge and India has handed over the railway to the Government of Nepal after completion of the construction.
In a program held in the capital on Friday, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Vinay Mohan Kwatra handed over the documents of the railways to Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Renu Kumari Yadav. The ownership of the railway has been transferred to Nepal Railway Company Limited from Friday.

The railway constructed at a cost of Rs. 8.77 billion with the financial assistance of the Government of India is a section of the 68.72 km Jayanagar-Bijalpura-Bardibas railway. The operation of the railway is expected to increase trade and commerce between Nepal and India and strengthen ties and unity between the two countries.
