Rs 180.74m Indian aid for river training

KATHMANDU, May 16: India has provided Rs 180.74 million for river training and construction of embankments along the Lalbakaiya, Bagmati and Kamala rivers in Nepal.

KATHMANDU, May 16: India has provided Rs 180.74 million for river training and construction of embankments along the Lalbakaiya, Bagmati and Kamala rivers in Nepal.



Indian ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri handed over a check  worth the amount to Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Irrigation and Water Resources, Sanjay Sharma, amidst a function in Kathmandu on Tuesday. Minister for Energy, Irrigation and Water Resources Barsha Man Pun was present on the occasion.

The river training and embankment work in the Lalbakaiya, Bagmati and Kamala rivers in Nepal is aimed at flood control and water resources management, which will benefit several million people inhabiting in the watershed of these rivers in India and Nepal, said a statement issued by the Embassy of India in Kathmandu.


“With the NRs 180.74 million, the government of India has so far given 13 installments since 2008 to Nepal for the river training and embankment works totaling to over NRs 4.68 billion,” the statement further said.
