KATHMANDU, Feb 9: The boys' semifinals of the ongoing Nepal ITF Junior U-18 Circuit-I Tennis Tournament is set to be an all-Indian affair after four participants of the country booked their places in the last four on Thursday.
Indian participants Atharva Sharma, Mritunjay Badola, Piyush S Salekar and Kabir Manrai advanced to the semifinals winning their respective matches.
Atharva defeated China's Pengyu Lu 6-3, 6-1, Mritunjay overcame his Indian colleague Dipin Wadhwa 6-0, 4-6, 6-2. Similarly, Piyush beat Polish player Michal Woznlak 6-1, 7-5 and Kabir defeated Ishan Sethi of the same country 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Similarly in the girls event of the same tournament, Chinese duo Yujiao Che and Minqiao Yang and India's Vaidehi Chaudhary and Shivani Swarup Ingle reached the semifinals.
China's Yujiao and Minqiao overcame Punnin Kovapitukted of Thailand and India's Sharannya Gware 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 and 6-1, 6-3 respectively. Likewise, Vaidehi beat Jing Yang of China 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 while Shivani defeated Mio Kozaki of Japan 6-4, 6-1.
Meanwhile, the Chinese pair of Pengyu Lu and Guangsen Wen and Indian pair comprising of Gunjhan Jadhav and Atharva Sharma are set to battle for the boys doubles title as they won their respective semifinals on the same day.
Similarly, the girls doubles summit clash will be between the pair of China's Chunxi Guo and Thai Punin Kovapitukted and the Chinese pair of Na Dong and Mingalao Yang.
