PALPA, Nov 24: Police have initiated investigation into an alleged murder of Binu Pulami of Heklang VDC-6, Palpa, who had been facing torture and violence over inter-caste marriage.
Binu had gone missing since the Dashian festival. Binu had tied the knot with a boy from an upper caste family four years ago. She had been facing torture and violence since the family did not accept her on the ground of belonging to lower caste.
On Thursday, Binu’s kin filed a case at the police station, claiming that she was murdered. The truth unfolded after the kin of Binu claimed that the body found by the police near Ramdighat on October 20 was Binu‘s.

As the body could not be indentified at the beginning, District Police Office, Palpa had handed over the body to Tansen Municipality. Tansen Municipality had buried the body near the Ramdighat.
The family identified the body based on her garment and photo.
Binu’s husband Dipendra Basyal of Tahu-7, his parents have been stated as defendants in the petition.
On Thursday, a team from the district police office including human-rights activists and journalists has reached Ramdigaht to exhume the body.
Police said that the body is being exhumed at the request of the kin of the victim as they want to perform funeral rites for Binu and verify that the body is hers.
Binu’s family made several efforts to contact her. She had not contacted her family after Dashain. While trying to reach her through facebook, Dipendra, Binu’s husband would answer reluctantly. He often said that Binu has been to India to complete her studies. After all numerous attempts to contact failed, we lived with a hope that she is well, said Nar Bahadur Pulami (Binu’s father).
Binu often complained that her new family tortured her, often passed hurtful comments to her saying that she was from a lower caste family.
Dipendra and Binu had tied the knot shortly after they fell in love with each other. Basyal family did not accept the marriage. However, they showed their modesty in front of the Pulami family as per their tradition.
