MORANG, March 6: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa has said that it would be a disregard of the parliament to say that there was no rationale for the government and parliament to endorse the MCC grant agreement with an interpretative declaration.
Talking to media persons at Biratnagar Airport on Sunday, General Secretary Thapa asserted that our own treaties, acts and international laws reserve our rights to describe any agreement. Stating that there is nothing new in the description, Thapa said that the provisions in the MCC were elaborated further to allay concerns raised by a section of people.

Thapa said the NC was clear about the description of the MCC compact. The descriptive note was needed to enlighten other political parties about the grant agreement and get it ratified by the parliament.
While expressing confidence that the misconception about MCC compact among the people would go away soon, Thapa argued that those spreading misinformation about MCC should be constantly held to account about MCC for the next few years. “Otherwise, they will continue to spread rumors and misconception on other similar issues,” he said.
NC Vice President Dhanaraj Gurung clarified that President Sher Bahadur Deuba formed a coalition in compulsive conditions and the coalition would be retained depending on the situation and circumstances. He, however, ruled out the possibility of forging an electoral alliance in the upcoming elections.
