Janakpur-Jayanagar train to run once a day for now

KATHMANDU, Feb 13: The long-awaited Janakpur-Jayanagar railway service has come into operation. The railway service came into operation 16 months after the government purchased two trains from India at the cost of Rs 840 million.

KATHMANDU, Feb 13: The long-awaited Janakpur-Jayanagar railway service has come into operation. The railway service came into operation 16 months after the government purchased two trains from India at the cost of Rs 840 million.



According to Niranjan Jha, General Manager of Nepal Railway Company, in the first phase of the 69-kilometer Jayanagar-Bijalpura-Bardibas railway, 32-kilometer Jayanagar-Kurtha railway has come into operation.

General Manager Jha said, “From today, the train will run once a day to Kurtha-Jayanagar on a regular basis. However, this is only a dry run without any passengers.” He said that the service would be operated three times a day after the joint inauguration by the Prime Ministers of Nepal and India virtually in a few days.


Similarly, General Manager Jha said that the Government to Government (G2G) agreement has been signed with KRCL Company, an Indian railway company, for the operation of the train. He said that Nepal Railway Company has recruited the remaining 65 administrative and auxiliary employees and trained them for the regular operation of the railway service.
