BAITADI, July 8: Jhulaghat border point along the Nepal-India border in the western part of the country is opening for three days starting Wednesday in a bid to rescue Nepalis nationals stranded on the Indian side of the border.

According to  Assistant Chief District Officer of Baitadi, Lokendra Singh Negi, a decision to this effect was taken in coordination with the local administration of both Nepal and India. The entry point remained shut since the country went into lockdown on March 24 in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak.

With this, those stranded along the Indian side of the border will enter Nepal. Similarly, those who have to go India to receive their pension and those willing to go to India for work will also be allowed to cross the border.  A number of retired pensioners of the Indian Army have been deprived of collecting their pensions as movement across the border was restricted since March.

However, the entry to India has been limited only to 100 people a day. The Soldier Board has distributed coupons to the ex-army men on the basis of their seniority to go to India.

Meanwhile, the three-day opening will also allow as many as 200 Nepalis stranded along the border to enter Nepal after a health checkup.
