Journalist Gelang killed in road accident

SURKHET, June 12: Journalist Nanda Bahadur Gelang died on the spot when a tipper hit him at Lode of Bheriganga Municipality-8 in Surkhet district today noon.



The incident took place when a tipper (Ba 5 Kha 1683) coming from Rukum to Chhinchu in Surkhet knocked Gelang down.

He was riding a motorcycle. Gelang, who is from Kalyan, Lekbeshi Municipality-7 in Surkhet, was working as a publisher and editor in ‘Surkhet Pahichan’ published from Birendranagar.


He was also Joint-Secretary of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ)’s Surkhet Chapter. The body of Gelang has been kept at Mehelkuna Hospital.


The tipper driver has been absconding following the incident. Police were searching for the driver, according to Basanta Rajaure, Superintendent of Police (SP) at the District Police Office, Surkhet.
