Kathmandu Valley records coldest day of the year so far

KATHMANDU, Dec 25: The Kathmandu Valley experienced the coldest day so far this winter season with the minimum temperature recorded at 2.9 degrees Celsius on Wednesday morning.

KATHMANDU, Dec 25: The Kathmandu Valley experienced the coldest day so far this winter season with the minimum temperature recorded at 2.9 degrees Celsius on Wednesday morning.



Earlier on Tuesday, the mercury had dipped to 3.2 degrees Celsius. According to meteorologist at the Department of the Hydrology and Meteorology (DoHM), Bibhuti Pokharel, the mercury continues to fall with each passing days this winter.

Stating that the temperature will keep fluctuating for few more days, Pokharel explained that if it is cloudy at night, the temperature rises at noon and if the sky is clear, the temperature will decrease.


The temperature has sharply declined in the various districts in Terai lately. The fog and cold waves are hitting hard the people in Terai, especially the children and elderly. Doctors have advised to take caution when it comes to children and elderly as they are most vulnerable to the biting cold.


According to the latest statistic of DoHM, the lowest temperature recorded today was in Jumla at -6.5 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Dipayal was 4.7 degrees Celsius, 3.5 degrees Celsius in Dang, 8.5 degrees Celsius in Pokhara, 6.5 degrees Celsius in Simara, 6.5 degrees Celsius in Dhankuta and 4.0 degrees Celsius in Okhaldhunga.
