KATHMANDU, July 28:  Koshi Province Chief Parshuram Khapung has called for the formation of a new government in the province.



Province Chief Khapung has given a deadline of August 1 at 5 PM for the formation of the new government according to Article 168 (2) of the Constitution.

In the letter issued by Province Chief Khapung on Friday, it is stated that a member of the Koshi Provincial Assembly, who has the support of two or more parties, can present their claim within the specified deadline to be appointed as the Chief Minister of Koshi Province and to form the provincial government, in accordance with the aforementioned article of the Constitution.


The Supreme Court ruled that the government formed in Koshi Province was against the Constitution and ordered on Thursday to initiate the process of forming a new government on the basis of majority by August 1.


The full bench of Justices Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, Anand Mohan Bhattarai and Til Prasad Shrestha has ordered the authorities to proceed ahead with the majority government formation process again within a week. The Supreme Court has ruled that the government formed in Koshi Province with the support of the Speaker is against the Constitution and has annulled the appointment of Uddhav Thapa as the Chief Minister.
