Landlady arrested for refusing to rent out room to journalist citing her ‘lower caste’ released

KATHMANDU, June 23: A landlady arrested on the charge of refusing to rent out a room in her house to journalist Rupa Sunar has been released on Wednesday.

KATHMANDU, June 23: A landlady arrested on the charge of refusing to rent out a room in her house to journalist Rupa Sunar has been released on Wednesday.



The landlady was identified as Saraswati Pradhan of Babarmahal, Kathmandu.

“The District Attorney Office of Kathmandu ordered the release of Pradhan without taking the case to the court,” said chief SSP Ashok Singh of Metropolitan Police Circle, Kathmandu.


Pradhan was kept in police custody for three days for investigation.


It has been learnt that the attorney office ordered the release of Pradhan citing the lack of evidence against her.
