KATHMANDU, July 2: Member of the National Assembly, Tara Devi Bhatta, has urged the government to launch an investigation into brutal attack on the cadres of Nepali Congress during a peaceful protest in Kanchanpur.
The NC lawmaker accused the ruling party cadres of attacking the NC cadres during a public event in Kanchanpur amid the presence of Minister for Water Supply Bina Magar.
"I strongly condemn the assault on the cadres of the Nepali Congress during their peaceful demonstration in Kanchanpur. Is not it a sheer violation of the rights to have a peaceful protest?" she questioned.

Bhatta urged the government to arrest those involved in the attack, bear medical expenses of NC's regional president Govinda Upadhyay and secretary of the Kanchanpur party committee Bikram Chand who were injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment at Neuro Hospital, Bansbari.
The scuffle between the NC and NCP cadres took place after a group of NC cadres waved black flags at Minister Magar in Kanchanpur during the event.
The NC lawmaker also drew the attention of the government to inordinate delay in the construction of postal highway in the southern part of Kanchanpur caused by obstruction of the Indian side.
She also raised the matter of the bidding cancellation of the Kaluwapur-Berauli stretch of postal highway near Kanchanpur.
Apart from other issues, Bhatta lamented the government's reluctance to provide compensation to storm victims and removal of Belauri custom point bordering India.
"It is disappointing to note that the government has not provided subsidies to sugarcane farmers yet even though the farmers are taking to the street to protest the government's apathy toward their problem," she added.
