Lions Governor Thapa pledges support for health, education

KATHMANDU, Dec 1: Visiting District Governor of District 4-C3 Lions Clubs of California, Berkely, Rajen Thapa, has announced to bring in a number of programs in health and education sector to address the needs of poor and needy people in Nepal.

KATHMANDU, Dec 1: Visiting District Governor of District 4-C3 Lions Clubs of California, Berkely, Rajen Thapa, has announced to bring in a number of programs in health and education sector to address the needs of poor and needy people in Nepal.



Addressing a function organized to felicitate him in the capital Friday, Thapa, who is the first Nepali-American to be elected as Lion District Governor in the USA, said they plan to run health camps in coordination with Kailash Medical Foundation for the families affected by the recent floods in Itahari, Sunsari and Tilathi, Saptari district in near future.

A team of doctors from US will visit Itahari and Tilathi from April 7 to 21 to provide free of cost treatment to the locals. The team will include physicians of general medicine, dentistry and gynecology. The Club also plans to organize relief management trainings to reduce casualties and losses in the event of floods in the future.  


Thapa arrived in Kathmandu on November 2, leading a nine-member group of doctors and entrepreneurs from the USA, to promote Lion's Club's bilateral relations and launch various projects in the field of health and education in Nepal. 


Among other things, the group during their 12-day long “goodwill visit” to Nepal extended support to elderly home in Kathmandu, visited various eye hospitals in Kathmandu and outside Kathmandu to assess their needs, organized eye camps in Bandipur, Tanahun and inaugurated Lions residential Vocational Training Center to be built in Bhaktapur for blind students.
