KATHMANDU, August 10: Senior citizens living in Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) will get Rs 10,000 each as Dashain allowance. The LMC is going to carry out this plan so that senior citizens can celebrate the festival happily.

LMC Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan said that taking into account the situation of the elderly, it has been decided to provide Rs 10,000 to each senior citizen once a year during the Dashain festival. He said, “With this amount, they will be very happy. We are going to continue this plan so that they do not have to ask their children for money to celebrate the festival.”

Mayor Maharjan stated that the metropolis had been giving Rs 5,000 to the citizens of this age group till last year, but this year Rs 5,000 has been added and Rs 10,000 will be provided to each senior citizen living in the metropolis. There are about 7,000 senior citizens in LMC.

Similarly, Maharjan said that they will also pay attention to forming a medical group and sending them for home treatment in case of lack of people to provide care and services for senior citizens when they fall ill. For this, the metropolis is planning to prepare a procedure under the 'Metropolitan City with Senior Citizens' program.
