Local administration of Sarlahi enforces curfew till Saturday morning after a person died in police firing

KATHMANDU, Jan 5: The local administration of Sarlahi District has imposed a curfew in order to take the situation under control following the death of a demonstrator on Friday.

KATHMANDU, Jan 5: The local administration of Sarlahi District has imposed a curfew in order to take the situation under control following the death of a demonstrator on Friday.



Issuing a public notice, the Chief District Officer Komal Prasad Dhamala said the curfew has been enforced from 5:30 pm on Friday afternoon through 8:00 am on Saturday morning. The order has restricted movement of people, mass gathering and organizing protests in the location that encloses Barahathwa town area (Soti-Chorniya bridge in the north, canal side of the road connecting Hajariya in the west, Hanuman Temple in the south and Bramhasthan to Sitapur in the east).

One person died when police fired a shot to control a group of protestors who started vandalizing the house of Kalpana Katuwal,  mayor of Barahathwa Municipality, on Friday afternoon. The police reportedly shot the protester in the head to take the situation under control. The deceased has been identified as Jaishankar Sah, 30, of Barahathwa Municipality-6.
