KATHMANDU, Aug 18: Local administration in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur have started consultations to tighten the measures to control the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Sources at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) said preparations are underway to enforce stricter measures to curb the movement of people as the cases of COVID-19 have witnessed a sharp rise in recent days. “Local administration offices have the right to enforce lockdown and other measures deemed appropriate. Given the severity of the situation, the local administration offices in the Kathmandu Valley are preparing to take necessary measures,” said a source at the ministry, asking not to be named.
A meeting of the chief district officers (CDOs) of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur is currently underway at Kathmandu District Administration Office. The meeting is likely to take a decision to completely restrict the movement of people and vehicles except those belonging to essential services.

The three districts in the Kathmandu Valley reported as many as 168 new cases of the COVID-19 on Monday alone. A total of 1,559 people have been diagnosed with this viral infection in the Valley since August 1.
