KATHMANDU, Oct 15: Ruling Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Saturday reiterated that local body elections would be held at any cost.
Deuba responded to the queries raised by media-persons about the elections and the issue of the constitution amendment at a tea reception organised by CPN-UML to exchange greetings on the occasion of festivals like Dashain, Tihar, Nepal Sambat and Chhath in the Capital.
Ruling out the reports that the opposition UML was 'not in favour of the constitution amendment proposal', the former Prime Minister said the UML was rather seeking for its relevancy.
"So problems involving the constitution amendment should be resolved through consensus," he said.
UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli refrained from the usual trend of passing comments about other political parties.
Rather he welcomed all attending political parties and their leaders at the reception.
Except for Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal who is on a visit to India, the reception witnessed the participation of people from different walks of life including prominent political party leaders, the Chief Secretary, athletes, civil society leaders, bankers, chiefs of various diplomatic missions, industrialists, high level government officials and journalists.
The participants include Speaker Onsari Gharti, NC senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, former PM and Naya Shakti Nepal coordinator Dr Baburam Bhattarai, former Speaker Subash Chandra Nembang, former PM and Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Lokendra Bahadur Chand, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Loktantrik) Chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachhadhar, Tarai-Madhes Loktantrik Party Chairman Mahanta Thakur and CPN (ML) General Secretary CP Mainali, among others.
At the party, UML Chairman Oli, senior leader Jhala Nath Khanal, Vice Chairman Bamdev Gautam and Bhim Rawal, leader Madhav Kumar, Asta Laxmi Shakya and Secretary Pradip Gyawali delivered welcome speeches. RSS
