Local reps term starts 7 days after poll results

KATHMANDU, May 17 : The five-year term of the elected peoples' representatives of the local units will start seven days after the announcement of the poll results. Revising Local Level Election Regulation has included provision of administering oath of office and secrecy.

KATHMANDU, May 17 : The five-year term of the elected peoples' representatives of the local units will start seven days after the announcement of the poll results. Revising Local Level Election Regulation has included provision of administering oath of office and secrecy.

"Returning officers deployed to the local units themselves will administer the oath of office and secrecy to all elected officials of local units," said Election Commission spokesman Surya Prasad Sharma.


A board meeting of the EC has decided to make changes to the regulation after confusions arose regarding the oath of office and secrecy in the changed context. According to the amended regulations state that the terms of the elected peoples' representatives shall begin seven days after the poll results are made public.
