TULSIPUR, Sept 23: The Tulsipur Drinking Water Consumers and Sanitation Association has protested against the authorities’ decision to allow limestone excavation near sources of water in the area.
According to Manoj Lamichhane, secretary of the organization, they have objected to the decision to allow the excavation of limestone as that will affect drinking water sources in different places of Tulsipur Sub-metropolis-3 and 4 along the Rapti Highway.
“We have received information that the government has given permission to excavate limestone in the areas where the drinking water sources are located," he said. “We must stop the excavations and save our water sources.”

“If the excavation process starts, all our water sources will dry up. Then how can we supply water to Tulsipur?” he asked.
The organization has also sent a letter to the Department of Mines and Geology in Kathmandu to stop the work of giving permission for excavation. Lamichhane said that they would be ready to conduct strikes if their plea is not addressed on time.
Nepal Water Supply Corporation has been distributing water from the said sources since 1971. Eight thousand and two taps have been distributed from the source due to which 60,000 consumers of 10,000 households have benefited.
