DHARAN, Dec 25: The locals of Dharan have started a relay sit-in demanding that Dharan be declared as the capital city of Province 1.

Locals on Saturday set up a tent at Ghantaghar in Bhanuchowk to stage their protest.  The campaign was widely supported by the youths affiliated to various political parties and organizations. As per the protesters, Dharan constitutes all the infrastructures and facilities required for Provincial Assembly and the office of the chief minister. Earlier, the locals were conducting various kinds of cultural programs to seek the attention of the concerned authority.

"We have already submitted a memorandum to the prime minister and even held discussions with various organizations. We have also started a relay sit-in from Saturday," said Aaindra Bikram Begha, coordinator of a local committee which is running the campaign to declare Dharan the capital of the province.

According to Chairperson of Women Network, Dharan, Shila Bajracharya, the government will have to spend a lot of time and money to develop infrastructures in other districts but that is not needed in Dharan as the infrastructures are already available there.
