Maghi Festival begins at Tuindikhel from Saturday

KATHMANDU, Jan 14: The Maghi Festival-2079, national festival of Tharu community, is going to be organized at Tudikhel from Saturday.



Twenty-four organizations with the coordination of Tharu Welfare Assembly Central Committee are organizing the two-day festival. Tharu cultural processions, handicrafts, traditional goods, book exhibition and motorcycle rally are the events as part of the Maghi festival.

Similarly, various individuals for their special contribution in different sectors would be honored in the festival.


Coordinator of the Main Organizing Committee, Premi Lal Chaudhary, said special food items prepared in Maghi festival such as dhikri, khichari, ghongi, sakkarkhanda as well as other Tharu food would be kept in the festival. Preparations are underway to perform various dances like maghauta, sakhiya, jhumra, chhokra, ragani hori on the occasion. 


A motorcycle rally would be organized from Koteshwor to Bhrikutimandap on Saturday.  Similarly, a separate programme will be organized at Basantapur on January 15, according to the organizers.
