Making people laugh

Charles Dickens once said, “There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor.” Like the saying, one can listen to a joke and that funny anecdote already makes people forget their current problems for a bit.

Charles Dickens once said, “There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor.” Like the saying, one can listen to a joke and that funny anecdote already makes people forget their current problems for a bit.

Thanks to the advancement in technologies, there are sitcoms, comedy movies, memes and also stand up comedy. They all have one thing in common: making people laugh.

In Nepal as well, comedy has evolved through various sources. Stand-up comedy has taken the Nepali audience by storm, and in a relatively short time period.

Rishav Kafle is an aspiring engineering student from Kathmandu. Apart from his studies, he enjoys making people laugh via his stand-ups. Kafle performs at the different local pubs and cafes around the capital. He says, “I have experienced many things in my life. Humor is a link to them.”

Kafle believes comedy is helpful for both the audience and the performer. He shares, “I am an introvert person. But when I get hold of a microphone, my confidence shoots. And by the time I start speaking, the audience relates the jokes to their own life.” He believes his life has got a meaning because of his passion for comedy and making people laugh.

Aside from planning to continue both studies and stand-ups, he wishes to write a sitcom one day.
