KATHMANDU, Nov 1: Releasing the election manifesto on Monday, the CPN (Maoist Center) has targeted to prepare a basis to bring in as much as 3 million foreign tourists a year. The party has also termed tourism as a key pillar for the country’s economic prosperity.
In the election manifesto, the party has announced to mark the Visit Nepal Year in a more revised and extended fashion, which was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Cooperation would be forged with the private sector for global publicity and marketing of Nepal’s tourist destinations. Nepal’s diplomatic missions abroad would be mobilized for tourism promotion by setting an annual target for them,” Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ read out the party’s election manifesto.

Likewise, eco-tourism, cultural tourism and adventure tourism would be promoted to prepare a basis for sustainable tourism with the theme of ‘Basis of Employment and Prosperity; Tourism for All’. For this to materialize, infrastructures and sectoral development would be carried out in the concerned fields.
Besides developing and identifying the new destinations, Janakpur, Pashupatinath, Sworgadwari and Halesi, and the birth place of Lord Ram in India would be developed as a Hindu circuit for the promotion of religious tourism for the Hindus across the world.
Likewise, Buddhist circuits would be developed from Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha, to Bodhgaya and other places. The International Buddhist Festival would be organized every year on the occasion of the Buddha Jayanti, the CPN (Maoist Center) stated.
Furthermore, the Great Himalayan Trail from Taplejung to Darchula, tourism infrastructure development in the trekking routes and war tourism including Guerrilla trail from Chunwang to Beni would be made more systematic.
As announced, classification of the mountaineers would be arranged and the security and emergency rescue of the mountaineers and trekkers would be made reliable and trustworthy.
Likewise, ‘garbage-free mountains’ program would be conducted for the management of garbage piled up in the mountains.
