The arrested are Chudamani Thakur, 27, a neighbor of the victim, Ram Babu Gupta Sah of Haripur VDC-1 and Kapil Dev Das of Deuri VDC-2, Saptari.

According to police, Thakur is the mastermind of the crime while Sah and Das are his accomplices.

Thakur has admitted to the police that he kidnapped the minor for ransom and killed him for the fear of being identified.

Rs 500,000 ransom demanded

On December 2, five days after the minor was abducted, the kidnapper had sent a message on Mamta Devi’s mobile asking for ransom of Rs 500,000.

“I have abducted your son. Arrange Rs 500,000 if you want to get your child back alive. If you inform the police, you will lose your child,” said the message.

Police launched a manhunt for the lost minor only after the kin of the child showed the message to them. A police investigation has shown that Takur had sent the message for ransom only after murdering the child.

A police investigation has said that Takur had sent the message after murdering the child.
