KATHMANDU, Nov 17: The Kayat community of Baglung, which has no identity, has announced that it will not participate in the census. The Kayat community has decided not to be included in the census 2021 saying that the state has ignored them without giving them their identity. They have complained that the community has been deprived of all services due to lack of identity.
Nim Bahadur Kayat, Chairman of Kayat Unified Society, said although the government has been giving discounts, reservations, free education and quotas in many places on the basis of ethnicity their community was denied any such privileges as they still suffer from identity crisis.

The Kayat community of Bobang, Dhorpatan Municipality-7 of Baglung has decided not to participate in the census as a protest saying that they have been neglected due to lack of identity.
“We have been ignored by the state. Our community has decided not to participate in the state statistics because the state has ignored us even though we have repeatedly raised issues of identity in municipal and district administrations,” said Nim Bahadur Kayat. “Due to the identity crisis, we have been facing problems in education and employment. The state has given ethnic identity to more than 100 castes but minority groups like ours have not been provided with even identity.”
There are 80 houses of the Kayat community in Dhorpatan. They have demanded the government to list the Kayat community as a minority community.
