KATHMANDU, June 7: Parliamentarians have criticized Minister for General Administration Lal Babu Pandit for his absence from a meeting of the Parliamentary State Affairs Committee on Friday.

The minister was invited to speak on the issue of recent vacancy announcements made by the Public Service Commission for the Province 2 government.  However, Pandit preferred to skip the meeting on Friday.

Nepali Congress parliamentarian Dilendra Prasad Badu criticized Minister Pandit for not being present in the meeting. "Why did he skip the meeting? We cannot tolerate such irresponsible behavior from a cabinet minister," he said.

Badu also objected to Minister Pandit's public remarks on the controversial vacancy announcements made by the Public Service Commission.

Parliamentarian Janardan Sharma of the ruling Nepal Communist Party also demanded to scrap the controversial vacancy announcements made by the Public Service Commission.

Parliamentarian Rajendra Mahato of the Rashtriya Janata Party claimed that the controversial vacancy announcements made by the Public Service Commission were against the principle of inclusiveness as enshrined in the constitution.

However, Secretary at the Ministry of General Administration Yadav Prasad Koirala defended the vacancy announcements made by the Public Service Commission. He argued that vacancy announcements are in line with the existing constitutional provisions as requested by the Province 2 government.
