SUNSARI, Feb 16: Dr Shekar Koirala, one of the key leaders of Nepali Congress, has said that the nation is facing a crisis due to an irresponsible move taken by President Bidya Devi Bhandari irrespective of her dignity and position.

He also accused her of taking sides with a faction within Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

Addressing a protest organized by Nepali Congress against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) in Sunsari, Koirala also maintained that the judicial body will take decisions independently and save the nation from the ongoing political crisis. “We are on the streets not to influence the case of House dissolution. It is against the unconstitutional move of the Oli-led government,” he added.

He also expressed his belief that the Supreme Court’s verdict on the case of House dissolution will be in favor of the nation.

Earlier on December 20, 2020, President Bhandari dissolved the lower house of parliament and announced midterm elections for April 30 and May 10 on the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Protests and demonstrations have erupted across the country following this ‘unconstitutional’ move of the government.
